Yesterday, I promised a big reveal. Here we go. [Warning: this post contains screaming. Lots.]
For the final installment in my blogging holiday week, I’m calling on my daughter Hannah. My youngest — one moment she’s holding my heart in a tiny, perfect baby fist and about a heartbeat later she’s telling me, “I’m going to be the one who picks out your nursing home. I’m just saying…”
Somewhere in between, we wrote a book. We spent her last year of high school talking about the setting, characters, life, death, plot, and why we couldn’t come up with a big-enough, bad-enough wolf. Then she went off to college and I started writing. A year later, and with truckloads of comments and suggestions from editor extraordinaire Mary Rosenblum of the New Writers Interface, we had a manuscript.
Okay — here is the big announcement I promised.
WE SOLD OUR BOOK!
Wait… Maybe you didn’t get that part.
WE. DID. IT! WE SOLD OUR BOOK!
Null City by Barbara and Hannah Taub, will be released by Taliesin Publishing this summer.
NULL CITY: Superpowers suck. If you just want to live a normal life, Null City is only a Metro ride away. After one day there, imps become baristas, and hellhounds become poodles. Demons settle down, become parents, join the PTA, and worry about their taxes. When forces try to destroy Null City in order to capture the the angelic relic powering the City and its Metro, Gaby, a (technically) dead accountant teams up with Leila, the teenage daughter of the Prince of Hell, to protect the City. It just would have been nice if someone told them the Angels were all on the other side. Or that the only one who can help is Gaby’s ex — the angel she killed.
If you want to get updates about the release date and how you can all order MANY copies, all you have to do is click the “follow” button in the sidebar. But right now there is some serious partying to be done.
Hannah — thanks for a great Mother’s Day present. And to everyone out there who’s had, been, or loved a mom — HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
PS: Did I mention the part about how we SOLD OUR BOOK? Just ask me!

Shazam!!!!! What an exciting announcement! Yay for you both 🙂 and here I thought you were going to say something like you found the match to the last lone sock from the dryer. (I suppose that’s more an indication of the level of excitement in my house …)

I had a friend who is father of boy-girl twins. He set up an orphan-sock matching service on his blog and was able to reunite many orphan pairs. But matching the last lone sock? That’s sci-fi fantasy of the highest order.

OH MY GOD!! SCREE, EVEN!! I am so bloody happy for you. That has got to be the best feeling ever. I wouldn’t know. Not that I’m jealous or anything…BUT WOW, that is wonderful news. I can’t wait to read it. How do I get my copy? I haven’t clicked on the link to your publisher yet…your publisher! How great is that to say!
Okay, way too many exclamation marks but seriously, I will want a signed copy, signed by both of you course.
I can’t wait to read it. Have I said that already?
And, yes, Mary is marvellous.

Someone sold a book around here? 😆
Congratulations !
P.S. Now that you’re in the money would you like to make a small contribution to the struggling authors at madhatters ? 😉

I guess that would depend on what the madhatters authors are struggling with. If I figure that out (and if I ever make any actual money, of course…),you’ll be at the top of my list.

Tips? I honestly have no idea. After a handful of rejection slips from agents, I put Null City aside to think about a possible rewrite. A friend heard about Taliesin Publishing, and said she’d worked with their brilliant editor. So I sent it off and almost had a heart attack when I got the reply a day later (!) saying they would be interested in publishing. I gave their offer careful consideration for about a nanosecond and accepted.
So I guess my only tip is to have great friends and to be really lucky. BUT if you would like a critique partner or some edits, please feel free to send a chapter or two of your WIP [amnhmama@gmail.com]. I can’t promise brilliance (or even vast editorial experience), but I’d love to take a look.
