Thank you Sue! It almost makes that 4:30AM wakeup call worth it. Almost…

It would for me, but I’m an early bird anyway. 😉

I have to admit that my little dog Peri was all over that early start. Out in the garden at 4:30AM? Then early breakfast and a train trip where people pet you and say you’re a fine wee doggie? Yes, please!

Ani likes the early mornings too…especially as she gets to sleep while I’m out at work 😉

I used to be an Explorer Scout advisor and we’d take a trip to Big Bend National Park in West Texas every year during Thanksgiving break. The following month we would host a parents’ night and the kids (high school age boys and girls, about 2/3s being tough and resourceful girls) put together a 35mm slide presentation of the past year’s backpacking, canoeing, and spelunking (cave exploring) trips. They set each trip’s segment with appropriate music and gave a narration. But for Big Bend, our keynote trip, they never narrated. They let the slides of that enchanted land do the talking for them. I get goosebumps just thinking about those vistas. It is like an unfinished world. I tried to insert some of that description into “The Hardest Ride,” my nitty-gritty Western romance.

I adore the sense of location in The Hardest Ride, so I’d say those trips have paid off for your readers as well.

Barb, I don’t know if you know, but the sequel, “Ride Harder,” will be released next month. It starts straight off with Marta being very Marta. This one takes place in milder weather.
