I agree! (And I don’t even own a TV.)

You don’t own a TV? What are you? Some kind of communist? (I can’t believe I spelled communist right!!!) I don’t own a TV either, but that’s because I’m a fascist (I needed spell check for “fascist”).

I had no idea that fascists and/or communists were not permitted TVs. But I’m far more radical–a devout and practicing Cheapskate. Cable fees are bad enough, but here in the UK there is also an annual TV license fee that gouges an additional 150 pounds of flesh.
BUT if you don’t pay it (because, say, you don’t have a TV, don’t like TV, don’t watch TV, and get your entertainment from Netflix and gift boxsets at Christmas, like God and Amazon intended), the entertainment value is huge. I get regular letters from the TV Licensing folk with greetings like, “What are you doing next Thursday? Because we’re going to raid your house and haul your BBC-flouting arse off to jail and charge you astronomical sums when we find your television. Cheerio.” (Apparently the possibility that those who really do own TVs might put them in the garage that day hasn’t occurred to anyone.)
But I say, bring it! I’m desperate to film them raiding my house in search of nonexistent television sets. Sadly, they’ve been sending me these threatening letters for the better part of the past decade, so while I do lay in an extra supply of tea and bake cookies on the date of each announced raid, I’m starting to suspect the raiders aren’t telling the whole truth about their plans for Thursday next…
So, anyway, that’s why I don’t have a TV. (My kids, BTW, are NOT PLEASED about this state of affairs when they show up for the holidays and realize, yet again, that they won’t be watching the Dr. Who holiday show when the rest of the world sees it.)

Jesus Fuckin’ Christ!!! And I thought it was bad here under Trump. I think I’ll postpone my visit for the time being. Wait … what you just wrote about sounds like heaven to a fascist like me. Maybe I can get a job sending out threatening letters. Can you put in a good word for me? And tell Peri to move over … I love fascist states. Sieg heil!!!!!!

No, no! Bad Andrew! Remember…we are the good guys. We don’t love fascist states (even if we can spell them).
Peri, however, has moved over to make room for you. She says she’ll even lend you her red bandana that the groomer put on so she’d look like one of those stupid college kid’s stupid college dogs.
She also says that if you visit, she’ll share her favorite movie (Snow Dogs) with you, so you don’t need to worry about not having TV here.

I reckon if you say “Bad Andrew,” I’ll fit right in with Peri. “Bad Andrew … bad Peri.” If we’re good, may we have a treat? AND … I would look sensational wearing a red bandana … and please tell Peri that I don’t even need it washed. Dirty laundry and I go very well together.

Peri wants you to know that she is NEVER “Bad Peri”.

Obviously not a commercial in the US 😉

I haven’t watched US TV in years, so when I do on rare occasions, I often can’t even tell what product the commercial is flogging. The mind of Madison Avenue is a strange and kind of scary place…

It is a scary place. The funny thing is that even though American advertising is very sexual (often exploitative), something as innocent as this would be considered too risqué.

The US is missing out on a great marketing tool (no pun intended!)…..thanks for the early morning laugh, Barb, from one who SHOULD still be asleep.

giggles – I do think I remember seeing this in Oz many, many years ago, when I used to watch TV. I haven’t for about 10 years now, and don’t miss it.
