We just said goodbye. We will never forget.
Honor to the Soldier, and Sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country’s cause. Honor also to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field, and serves, as he best can, the same cause — honor to him, only less than to him, who braves, for the common good, the storms of heaven and the storms of battle. —Abraham Lincoln, December 2, 1863

I cannot share this Barb as the ones who send thr soldier, sailor or airman to do his duty sometimes lack any honour themselves. So the deaths may be for their benefit and not that of the country. Some of our leaders have an interest more in profit than in honour and young lives are wasted on that front.

Memorial Day honors those who gave their lives, not those who gave the orders.
Although our dad didn’t make that ultimate sacrifice, he and those who served with him were prepared to do that. They deserve our thanks and our respect.

May all the sacrifices through the years not be in vain.

Thank you! (It’s true that I do wonder what that “greatest generation” would think of what’s happening in today’s world.)

they have my respect and my thanks but it should be that sometimes those who follow orders question them too.

True. But as David pointed out, we also can’t forget what they were fighting for, or that we may need to fight again.

All the thanks go to those who served, and the families who supported them.
