Frankly, my dear…
My brother is a fantastic woodworker. He makes gorgeous furniture that’s way too heavy to send from California to Scotland, and has an addiction to his laser-engraver. His latest lockdown project is to make wood signs engraved with favorite movie lines. He’s challenged us to tell our favorite lines, with one of the signs as our reward if he chooses ours to engrave.
Here are my first thoughts. Yes, I cheated a bit and added in a couple TV faves. (As I read them over, I’m starting to think my mind is not quite all sunshine and rainbows…)
“You’re going to burn in a very special level of Hell. A level they reserve for child molesters and people who talk at the theater.”—Firefly, 2002
“You know how to whistle, don’t you? You just put your lips together and blow.”—To Have and Have Not, 1944 “
“You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.” — The Princess Bride, 1987 [best writer quote ever]
“Face it, girls. I’m older and I have more insurance.”—Fried Green Tomatoes, 1991 [My role model]

Wendy: ….but everybody who’s left lives happily ever after.
All: Hurray!”—Peter Pan, screenplay for the 1954 musical version [sorry–no clip]
“Even artichokes have hearts.”—Amélie, 2001
“Honey? Where’s my super suit?”—The Incredibles, 2004

“But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career, skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.”—Taken, 2008 [I like to think of this as my definition of motherhood…]
“Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t.”—Legally Blonde, 2001 [Clearly, I’ll need to get more exercise during lockdown. A LOT more exercise]
