Ha! Ha! I get such a kick out of those cute British sayings. The first time I visited the UK, I took pictures of the signs. One that had me giggling was outside a tailor’s shop, “Don’t faint on the street, come in and have a perfect fit.”

I collect signs wherever I go. In fact, I have two new ones (coming up on Wednesday’s post) that completely mystify me.

Someone (from another country) once commented on the CAUTION, SLOW CHILDREN signs in our neighborhood.

So much harder to hit the fast children…
UK street signs are an unfailing source of humor to Americans. I can (barely) keep a straight face when ordered to “hump, 500 yards” but the “humped zebra crossing” inevitably inspires drink-spewing hysteria.

As a Brit visiting the USA, I also saw some signs that made me roar with laughter – it’s amazing that we actually do understand one another sometimes!

I collect them too – and until a year ago when my youngest sister died – we exchanged and shared these signs. There must be hundreds here and there. I also love ‘doctors’ signs’, especially when a gyno was called Metzger (butcher)…. I must say I found that sign very worrying!
