Tapas, pinchos, Spanish wine, and beer. There’s a point where the lodging doesn’t matter so much. Okay, so we never actually reached that point, but we certainly gave it our best shot.

Yes, but they were mostly bent double laughing at the sight of me begging the dog to please go potty in the microscopic sliver of dirt between the trees and the metal grates that surrounded every scrap of planting—which she knew perfectly well was just a disgusting idea.

The Glass-Half-Empty traveller says “At least the (banging/pounding/shouting/COPIOUS cigarette-smoking) construction work stopped at seven o’clock.”
The Glass-Half-Full traveller says, “Madrid! Tapas crawl—hell yeah!”
The deal breaker? No kettle in the “fully furnished” 2-bedroom flat. Not even a microwave.

Whilst the personal calligraphy is concerning, I’ve got my eye on what appears to be a high-water mark on those doors. Are you in a flood zone? Did the construction workers hit a water main? Hmmm…

I don’t think it was an actual load-up-the-ark flood, but renovations were about waist-high in the lobby too. Luckily we were on top floor—6th floor by American standards, 5th by the ancient one-person but blessedly working lift—so the flooding wasn’t nearly as intrusive as the banging/pounding/ sawing/ chain-smoking/ paint fumes/ yelling that all commenced at 7AM. (Including the cement mixer that drove up, blocked the entrance, and happily began churning away before it was even quite light out. But I’m not bitter…)

Oh Barb, How awful! And so unlucky. We live in Spain and love it. Obviously, every country has its ‘black spots’ and you seem to have found one of them..Better luck next time!.Cheers.
